Research and Development Engineer

LOGE Polska Sp. z o.o. is a small engineering company providing technical and consultancy services for automotive industry. We are a part of LOGE AB that develops and markets LOGEsoft for analyzing combustion, emissions formation, and fuel effects in engineering applications. We are specialized in delivering innovative software-based solutions for automotive industry to help in developing cleaner and more efficient internal combustion (IC) engines and exhaust gas aftertreatment systems. Currently, we are seeking an R&D engineer to join the team in our office in Czestochowa, Poland.

Position description

You will perform research and development work related to the use of modern simulation methods for IC engines development and optimization. The simulation framework is built around LOGEsoft package, CFD tools and optimization algorithms for the analysis of combustion, fuel effects, and emissions formation in IC engines. As part of our team you will work with developers and application engineers from the German and Swedish office to ensure successful projects delivery.

Candidates desired qualifications

  • M.Sc. in mechanical engineering, applied physics, computer science, or related field
  • Excellent English skills and at least basic knowledge of internal combustion engines are mandatory
  • Research experience and prior knowledge of simulation tools, such as 1D/3D CFD, would be a plus
  • Basic programming and scripting skills would also be a plus; at LOGE we use Fortran, C/C++, Matlab
  • The candidate should have the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Good communication, interpersonal and presentation skills are expected from the candidate

Investigation of the internal parameters of dual fuel engine, testing engine operation conditions, calibration of the lab-scale engine in terms of performance and environmental impact

Topic description:

The general concept of the PhD thesis will be focused on development a new direct-injection concept for ammonia combustion which will be theorized to improve NH3 engine operation and solve the issue of ammonia slip, NOx emission, efficiency, combustion stabilization, bringing the technology to an application-readiness level. The technology demonstration will be done in frame of Pol-Nor project Ammonia as carbon free fuel for internal combustion engine driven agricultural vehicle (ACTIVATE) in consortium of Silesian University of Technology, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, University of Agriculture in Krakow together with industrial partner LOGE Polska Sp. z o.o.

Candidates requirements:

Programming skills (Python or equivalent), LabVIEW – experience in Real Time application as well as basic knowledge of programming in FPGA mode, Basic knowledge of internal combustion engines are mandatory, Knowledge of the engine control systems, Master degree, Excellent English skills, Good communication, interpersonal and presentation skills are expected from the candidate

Development methodology for testing retrofitted engine fueled by ammonia under normal working conditions

Topic description:

The general concept of the PhD thesis will be focused on development a new direct-injection concept for ammonia combustion which will be theorized to improve NH3 engine operation and solve the issue of ammonia slip, NOx emission, efficiency, combustion stabilization, bringing the technology to an application-readiness level. Both NOx and ammonia slip can be handled by modern exhaust after treatment, but it is ideal to manage these emissions during the combustion process as much as possible through optimization. Retrofitted engine uses hypothesis of the direct liquid injection which will provide greater control potential over mixture formation and reduce NOx formation and ammonia slip. Development methodology for controlling NOx emission and ammonia slip during engine normal operation is very demand while it is no trivial task and requires significant study.
